Mt Hutt Ski Area

Ōpuke Thermal Pools & Spa
Ōpuke is the kind of facility that surprises visitors who expect a modest provincial pool. Opened in November 2021 with a NZD $7.5 million government investment, it won the New Zealand Institute of Architects' National Award for Commercial Architecture in its first year — and after one visit, the award makes complete sense. The Rakaia Gorge Walkway is one of Canterbury's most rewarding half-day walks, and it is almost entirely unknown outside the region.
